The name means 'Kòng Island Province'. Its capital is Krong Koh Kong, which is located in the West of the province right next to the Thai border. The city is surrounded with a large forested area connected to the mainland by bridges and ferries. It's generally a quiet town, but there are many reasons to stay in Koh Kong for more than one night such as the nearby islands, rivers, tours into the nature and the buzzing nightlife. The people of Koh Kong speak mainly Khmer, and most speak some Thai as well. You can also find many Chinese and Vietnamese speakers as well as a lot of broken English.

Koh Kong is a province in Cambodia located southwest of Phnom Penh. Mountains dominate this area but the famous tourist attractions in Koh Kong are its two hundred kilometers stretch of beautiful beaches and over twenty beautiful islands located in the Gulf of Thailand. Its capital city is Krong Koh Kong.

The province is an increasingly popular gateway to Cambodia from Hat Lek in southern Thailand, in part of the reasonably direct access to the port and beach resort town of Sihanoukville. While this was previously a gruelling journey by boat and pickup on rough bumpy roads using small ferries at river crossings, the donation by the Thai government of new road infrastructure is improving access greatly.

Koh Kong is one of the most well known Tourist Destinations in Cambodia. If you want to experience a memorable holiday away from the hustle-bustle of city life, then Koh Kong is the perfect choice for you. It is actually an island situated just south western part of the Cambodia that is in close proximity with the border of Thailand. Travelers can reach the Koh Kong province either from Sihanoukville by boat or from the main land by small boat by a car from the Thai border.

There are a few scenic waterfalls here with Ta Tai Waterfall and Koh Poi Waterfall as the main waterfalls whereby these are among the many places of interest in Koh Kong. Other activities that you may indulged in while you are here include trekking in its rainforest or go fishing. It is important to know that the better beaches are located on the western end of Koh Kong Island. The abundance of natural resources here provides the residents here with a constant source of income and this place is also famous for its local handicraft called klum (incense oil).

Koh Kong lies along the water front that is running from North to South. The beautiful land is situated at the eastern part of the city. It is actually a tranquil fishing village or town with several of sightseeing attractions and a dazzling nightlife.

It is also travel around the attractive places in Koh Kong. Sner Beach is a situated in the Dong Tung Commune of Koh Kong beach. Just 17 kilometers away from Provincial Town of Koh Kong, you can come to this beach. Veal Achaut Waterfall is also another sightseeing place of Dong Tung Commune of Smachmeanchey District. You can reach to this beautiful waterfall by traveling 45 Km away. Lam Da Beach is another attraction for the travelers. Located at the Lam Da Village of Koh Kong District, you can arrive at this beach by 20 Km from provincial town. Koh Kong Krov Beach is also a popular destination in Koh Kong where you can head for beach hopping.

Koh Kong has a vibrant and colorful nightlife. Otto is the most attractive place for foreigners that remain open until 10 pm. You can also go to any of the karaoke clubs which are situated within town. The 'Red Zone' is set just 4 Km south east of the traffic circle. You will have to take a taxi to reach this place. You will find here large number of tourists sitting up all night in the eateries which serve up drinks and food till late into the night. You can also come to the casino, which is located at the Koh Kong International Resort Club on the Hat Lek part of the river.

There are a few transportation methods of getting to Koh Kong. There is a direct flight to Koh Kong from Phnom Penh or you may choose to travel by sea from Sihanoukville using a fast boat. If you are coming in from Thailand, you have to get a visa on arrival at the Cham Yem International Border Checkpoint. There are more visitors making day trips to Koh Kong now since the opening of the new bridge which allows tourists to drive from Thailand to Phnom Penh.

This stay here will be economical as lodging, food and transportation is relatively cheap here. Please make this place a stop on your travels through S.E. Asia and you won't be disappointed.
