Auba is the most attractive destination of Bobonaro district. Bobonaro district is one of 13 administrative districts located within the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. This Boborano district is considered to be the second-most western district located on the east half of the island. This district boasts a population of more than 82,385 including the residents of Auba. This district encompasses an area of more than 1,368 square kilometers. The sub-districts are Balibó, Atabae, Cailaco, Bobonaro, Lolotoi and Maliana. In Portuguese Timor, the Boborano was identical to the capital of Vila Armindo Monteiro. The Savu Sea in Boborano is located to the north of Bobonaro. The district surrounds the districts of Ermera to the east, Ainaro to the southeast, Liquiçá to the northeast and Cova-Lima to the south. To the west of the country, there lies the Indonesian province Nusa Tenggara Timur. Maliana, the capital of Bobonaro, is considered to be the fourth largest city of East Timor. As of 2004, it boasts a population of more than 13,200. This is just 149 kilometers from the southwest of the national capital of Dili. Of the two largest cities in the Boborano districts, Auba is the most famous one. Auba is the home to more than 6,700 people and it also boasts a number of attractive places. Lolotoi is another city of Boborano district. It holds a population of 3,800. The district of Boborano has been the popular destination of Timor because of its mountains and hot springs. Other than the official languages of Tetum and Portuguese, the Bobonaro district including Auba speaks the Malayo-Polynesian languages. These languages are known as Bunak and Kemak. These are designated as "national languages" by the constitution. |
