Bobonaro, East Timor - South East Asia
Bobonaro is among the 13 administrative districts in East Timor. The country is better known as the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. Bobonaro is one of the renowned tourist destinations in East Timor.
Bobonaro is the second-most western district on the eastern half of the country. The district sprawls over an area of 1,368 square kilometers. As of 2004, the district had a population of 82,385. During the Portuguese rule over East Timor, the capital of the country was Vila Armindo Monteiro, which is presently called Bobonaro. Bobonaro is constituted of 6 sub districts, namely - Geographically, the Savu Sea is situated to the north of Bobonaro. Bobonaro shares the border with the districts of Ermera to the east, Liquiçá to the northeast, Cova-Lima to the south, and Ainaro to the southeast. The Indonesian province Nusa Tenggara Timur is nestled to the west of Bobonaro. The capital of Bobonaro is Maliana. It is the fourth largest city of East Timor. As of 2004, Maliana had a population of 13,200. Maliana is located 149 km to the southwest of Dili, the national capital. The other large cities in the Bobonaro district are Aubá and Lolotoi. The official languages used in Bobonaro are Tetum and Portuguese. Besides, a large number of people in the district speak the Malayo-Polynesian languages Bunak and Kemak. These languages are declared as "national languages" by the constitution. The Bobonaro district is a nice place to visit while on a tour to East Timor.
