Fohoren, East Timor - South East Asia

Fohoren is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. The country is commonly known as East Timor. Fohoren is a parish in the district of Cova Lima. This parish is nestled amidst imposing mountains. It takes about 11 hours by road from the national capital Dili to reach Fohoren. This is a wonderful place to come while on a tour to East Timor.

Fohoren is perched at an elevation of 595 meters above sea level. As of 2004, the parish had a population of 4,116. Some of the cities and towns situated in close proximity to Fohoren are -

    Fohoren was established by the Claretian priests in the year 1992. The parish is part of the large tract of land nestled on the West Timor border. This area covers four of the sub districts of the district of Cova Lima, including Fohoren. The other three sub districts covered by this large tract of land are all mountainous areas. These areas are-

  • Tilomar
  • Fatumean
  • Fatululik

    Most of the people living in Fohoren make their living by farming. The parish is positioned about 25 km from the Lolotoe sub district, along the border of East Timor and Indonesia. To come to Fohoren, you have to travel inland, away from the border. You have to then move to the coast.
