People of Lolotoe belong to the Bunaq speaking ethno-linguistic group. This group spreads into the neighboring district of Cova Lima as well as in parts of Balibo and a small region across the border in Indonesian west Timor. The Bunaq language is derived from the Papuan language family. There are many people in Lolotoe who are fluent in speaking the national language, Tetun, as also the Indonesian language. The majority of people living in Lolotoe are farmers. Many of them walk to Suai and sell their produce in the shops and markets there.
