Pante Macassar is also known as Pante Makasar is a lovely city located on the north coast of East Timor. Pante Macassar is situated at a distance of 281 Km to the west of Dili, the capital of East Timor. Pante Macassar has a population of more than 4,730. Pante Macassar in East Timor serves as the capital city of Oecussi-Ambeno exclave. The name of Pante Macassar literally means 'beach of Makasar,' related to the erstwhile trade with Makasar in Sulawesi.

Locally Pante Macassar is known also as 'Oecussi,' which literally means 'water cannon,' and was the name of one of the 2 original kingdoms which were a part of the enclave. The other community was Ambeno. During the Portuguese colonization, the city of Pante Macassar in East Timor was also known as Vila Taveiro.

Lifau remained the capital until the year 1769, when it was transferred to Dili because of the constant attacks from the Topasses. Due to its distance from the remaining part of East Timor, Oecussi-Ambeno and its sub district Pante Macassar became the first territory occupied by Indonesia on November 29, 1975.

In 1999, in the uproar that accompanied the referendum for Independence, Pante Macassar at East Timor was particularly affected by the destruction of the pro-integration militias, supported by the Indonesian army. At present, the city of Pante Macassar has quite a few beautiful buildings and a lovely beach to relax and unwind.

The beach of Pante Macassar in East Timor attracts large numbers of travelers to the region. The lovely beach has crystal-clear water and is surrounded by lovely palm trees.
