By Air

The Soekarno-Hatta, Banten and Ngurah Rai, Bali are the major international airports of Indonesia. Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier of Indonesia, operates flights to Indonesia from Asia, New Zealand, Australia and Middle East, Western Europe.

Air India, Air China, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, etc. are some of the other airlines which would help in getting to Indonesia. Low-cost carriers like Air Asia, Jetair Asia and Tiger Airways are also options that one can look at. It is advisable to book a flight to Singapore and then take a second flight to Indonesia.

By Boat

Getting to Indonesia by boat is also possible from Singapore and Malaysia. There are 21 seaports in Indonesia. In Malaysia you can take a ferry from Penang to Medan, located in the northern region of Sumatra. There are many ports in Sumatra where the ferries from Singapore and Malaysia arrive. From Singapore you can take a ferry to Batam and Bintan, islands located near Sumatra.

By Bus, Car and Rail

The only land border crossing possible in Indonesia is at the location of West Kalimantan and Sarawak through Malaysia. They have must find out whether you are allowed to enter Indonesia by this method without a pass or visa. The same applies for a bus ride or a train ride through the border points. Getting to Indonesia by bus is also possible from Kuching in Malaysia. But the journey takes a considerable amount of time.
