Mountain climbing, Indonesia - South East Asia
The island of Sumatra is perhaps the best location. Gunung Padang, near the island's capital, Padang, is a small black basalt cliff reached via a river-paddling trip followed by a trek through rainforest. Further inland, Bukittinggi offers challenging cliffs overlooking rice paddies. The dramatic canyon rocks in nearby Harau National Park are still largely unexplored and should only be attempted by experienced climbers.
Mountain climbing in Indonesia would be exciting as here are 400 mountains and most of them are volcanoes in which some are active and inactive ones. The mountains are found on the islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa. The highest amongst them is the snow capped Mandala(5,000 m above sea level) in Irian Jaya. Thus mountain climbing in Indonesia becomes ideal. For mountain climbing in Indonesia one would find that it is dotted with mountains and volcanoes covered by tropical rain forest, Indonesia is one of the world most exotic places for the tropical mountain trekking and volcano observation. The "Ring of fire" runs through Sumatra, Java, the Lesser Sunda Islands and then up to Moluccas and made these islands marked by jagged volcanoes and most fertile land on the planet. For mountain climbing in Indonesia one can choose from the mountains, which suits the best. The highest volcano in Indonesia and in South east Asia Mt. Kerinci(3,805m) along with its wildlife. The easy climbing Mt. Gede (2,958 m) & Mt.Pangrango (3.100 m) in West Java part of the Gede-Pangrango National Park - with it's panoramic view of craters. The most challenging volcano to climb is Mt. Semeru (3,676 m) and Mt. Bromo (2,200 m) well known for the extraordinary sea of sand and the spectacular sunset. In the mountain climbing in Indonesia some of the climbs are for the experience trekker only.
