Temples in Bali

Besakih Temple

Referred to as the "mother temple" by the people of Bali, this temple complex is home to 30 grand temples. The Besakih temple is nestled 900 meters up the slopes of the picturesque Mount Agung in Bali.

Pura Luhur Uluwatu

Built of dark grey coral stone, this 11th century temple is dedicated to the supreme god, Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa. It is believed that the temple shields the Balinese people from evil spirits.

Pura Tanah Lot

One of seven sea temples positioned near the coast of Bali, this pilgrimage temple sits upon an enormous offshore rock formation called Tanah Lot.

Pura Tirta Empul

This temple is located around the famous holy springs, which are believed to possess magical powers. Divided into 3 courtyards, this temple complex hosts a religious ceremony every 210 days.

Pura Ulun Danu

This temple consists of two temples - the Pura Ulan Danu Batur and the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan. The former houses nine exquisite temples, while the latter has four spacious compounds.

Pura Taman Ayun

Renowned as the 'Garden Temple in the Water', this 17th century temple is situated on a beautiful island in a river.

Prambanan Temples

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a temple complex which houses a set of ancient Hindu temples. This temple complex is positioned 17 Km from Yogyakarta.

Borobudur Temple

The largest Buddhist monument in the world, the Borobudur Temple is an ancient Buddhist stupa and temple complex situated in Central Java.

Ratu Baka Temple

Constructed of foreign ceramic fragments, white stones, and local earthen-ware, this temple is located at the southern end of the Prambanan Temple in Bokohardjo District in Java.
