Myeik Archipelago

Myeik Archipelago, located in southernmost part of Myanmar, comprises over 800 beautiful islands covering an area of 10,000 square miles, most of which remain pristine and untouched by modern development. Due to virtual isolation, the islands and surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of wild life and flora. It is a paradise for diving enthusiasts and a haven for travelers who enjoy sailing, exploration, snorkeling or sea-kayaking.

The only human inhabitants in the area are Salone, or sea gypsies, a nomadic sea-faring race whose lifestyle has changed very little over the years. They still practice the same fishing and boat-building techniques used for generations.

Diving in Myanmar is somewhat different from that of Thailand. Myanmar is action-packed with schools of large pelagic fish. Several types of big sharks abound - silvertip, blacktip, Grey-reef sharks, hammerheads, whale sharks and the occasional bull sharks. Over one hundred manta rays have been seen on one dive alone. Sea horses, ornate ghost pipes and stonefish are amongst the Archipelago's rare inhabitants. Huge barrel sponges, soft and hard corals can also be seen in great numbers,

Scuba diving in the Andaman Sea

(a part of the Indian Ocean off the west coast of Myanmar and Thailand) one of the last unexplored part on our planet is a unique experience. Scuba diving and liveaboard in Myanmar always are related since there is no diving station and supply along the Myanmar coast all Scuba diving and liveaboard activities are ship born and this ships always are operated out of Phuket Thailand.

The Andaman Sea is off the West coast of Myanmar and Thailand with almost no contact to any foreigners except the Thai part since the nineteen century.

The last times foreigners were seen in the Myanmar Andaman Sea was during British colonial time, now slowly some "live aboard" diving tours are offered out of Thailand ( Phuket ). There are not many places on earth so untouched and this wont last very long.

Pls. have a look into our new book on the Andaman Sea and the Sea Nomads which includes a comprehensive chapter on the underwater world in the Andaman Sea, click e-books left.
