Lampi Marine Park in Myanmar - South East Asia

Lampi, one of the islands of Myeik Archipelago, is situated along the coast on the southern part of Myanmar. It is 90 miles away from Myeik by sea and about 60 miles from Kawthaung, the southernmost frontier town of Myanmar, lying opposite Ranoung in Thailand. You can reach there by flying from Yangon to Kawthaung then taking a boat-ride across the sea to the Island. You can also reach Kawthaung, a bustling town and important port with a lot of economic activities, from Ranoung in Thailand by taking a speedboat for 20 minutes. The island is about 50 km in length and about 11 km in width, with the land area around 205 sq km as an ecotourism site by the Ministry of Forestry in 1996, with the aim of developing a nature marine park in Taninthayi Division.

The sea journey from Kawthaung to Lampi is leisurely and you can see dolphins in clear and uncontaminated water. The streams of islands including Kuboo, Crocodile, Kanzargyi or Kugyi, Leit Oo Kyun and Turtle are in various shapes and sizes as they appear one after another. You can also have a chance to meet and study the way of life of well-known "Salone" people in a village called Makyonekalat. These sea gypsies live on boats and are famous as the best divers in the world.

Lampi island, which rises 1,524 ft above sea level, is lush with species of tropical rain forest, mangroves and thick growth of bamboo in addition to those aged trees hanging above the water. You can also expect a beautiful beach of the coral island, which is radiant with different colors of red, pink, black and white in the sea. Moreover, various kinds of marine flora and fauna can be observed and enjoyed on many islands. When it comes to accommodation, there is the international standard Amanda Hotel on Tha Htay Kyun island in addition to a number of motels in Kawthaung for budget tourists.

Lampi, one of a few unspoiled areas of the world's tourist destinations, is rich in natural beauties such as waterfalls, forests, spas and coral reef while providing refuge to a variety of wildlife on or around the islands. You will never forget the experience once you have visited this tropical underwater paradise that remains untouched and unspoiled, which also serves as the world-class diving destination.
