Myaing Hay Wun Elephant Camp in Myanmar - South East Asia
The Camp, established in 1986, is situated in Taikkyi Township of Yangon Division, covering an area of 10 acres. You can get there by driving 60 miles from Yangon to Pa-lon, then 8 miles along the unpaved road from Pa-lon to Kwan Ti Myaung, and 4.5 miles along the forest road from Kwan Ti Myaung to Myaing Hay Wun. The variety of wildlife taking refuge in the area includes elephant, gaur, banteng, barking deer. wild boar, hare, wild cat, green peafowl, ruddy shelduck, hill myna, blossom-headed parakeet, pheasant, red jungle fowl, quail, dove, duck, lesser tree duck, butterflies, moths, snakes, monitor lizard, ground lizard, grass lizard and chameleon.
The Ministry of Forestry has been doing research on elephant artificial insemination (EAI) method in the Camp in order to increase the elephant population. By visiting Myaing Hay Wun Elephant Camp, you will benefit from a number of opportunities for study and recreation including study of fishes and aquatic creatures in La-har-ma-nge fishpond and recreational fishing, viewing pyinkadoe plantation situated near Sinte while enjoying the singing of birds, hiking and mountaineering in the forest, observing the training of domestic elephants, taking elephant rides around the Camp, and witnessing the capture of wild elephants. |
