Nat Ma Taung National Park in Myanmar - South East Asia

Located among Kanpet-let, Mindut and Matupi Townships of Chin State, Nat Ma Taung National Park covers an area of 279 square miles. To access there, you can fly from Yangon to Nyaung-Oo, 320 miles by air, then drive 18 miles to Chauk, then 68 miles from Chauk via Seikpyu to Hsaw, and 12 more miles from Hsaw to Kanpet-let, or 42 miles from Hsaw to Mindut. Nat Ma Taung National Park was established in 1994 with the intention to conserve the watershed areas in the region, to conserve the mountain ecosystem and prohibit illicit hunting, to preserve five species of rare birds which can be found only in Myanmar, other native and migratory birds and their habitats, and to preserve rare species of Myanmar orchids.

There flourish such types of forest in the Park as hill evergreen forest, moist upper mixed deciduous forest, pine forest (above 9,000 feet), and hill savannah. Moreover, the Park also shelters wildlife mammals such as tiger, bear, wild boar, leopard, goral, serow, gibbon, etc., as well as 159 bird species, reptiles and butterflies.

By visiting Nat Ma Taung National Park, you are sure to enjoy the following opportunities for study and recreation: experiencing the unspoiled natural mountain scenery; visiting the third highest mountain in Myanmar, which is 10,018 feet high, by hiking a distance of 15 miles from the old Kanpet-let city, or simply driving 10 miles from Kanpet-let city and trekking the remaining five miles to the mountain; observation of 159 bird species including five indigenous species and also Blyth's Tragopan, a very rare species; participation in organized Orchid Tours to where the most attractive Myanmar orchids exist; observing the traditional and cultural heritage of Chin people and their way of life; and observing the natural forest and trees, especially Rhododendron arboretum.
