National Botanical Garden in Myanmar - South East Asia
Established in 1915, National Kandawgyi Gardens is located in Pyin Oo Lwin of Mandalay Division, covering an area of 344.81 acres. It is 472 miles away from Yangon by car if you go via Mandalay. You can also go by air from Yangon to Mandalay, that is 400 miles, then proceed to Pyin Oo Lwin by car, which is 42 miles away from Mandalay. Formerly known as National Botanical Gardens, it aims to serve the public as a recreation centre, and collect and reproduce rare and endangered plant species for their perpetual existence, among other things.
The forest and vegetative types flourishing in the Gardens are about 344 species of forest trees (big species) with the numb er of trees totaling 5,000, 42 species of indigenous orchids, 25 species of rose, and six species of Crinum amoenum (land lily). Natural forest area in the Gardens is 42 acres. Wildlife present in the area include inland indigenous birds (resident forest birds), reptiles, small mammal species and insects. While National Kandawgyi Gardens offers researchers opportunities for study and research activities relating to Botany, it also serves as the best place for rest and recreation to vacationers who love nature.
