The primary attraction of snorkeling is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting. And, no other place can be as fascinating as Philippines for snorkeling.
The Philippines is made out of 7107 islands and lots of coral reefs. Therefore it is a heaven of snorkeling opportunities. There are 34,000 Sq km of coral reefs, some of which have grown since the Ice Age; over 100 reef slopes; over 800 classes of corals; over a thousand species of marine life; over 400 fish species and over 500 fish families; and the most populous and diverse aquatic ecosystem to be found. In Baler alone, there are at least five good snorkeling spots, although some may have been spoiled due to illegal dynamite fishing. Snorkeling points are profuse in the southern portion of Baler. These reef areas are in the neighborhood of the Aniao Islets, Cemento Beach, Digisit Beach, Dimadimalangat Islet, and the Lukso-Lukso Islets. One of the more striking areas to snorkel is in Dicasalarin Bay, which is 45 minutes by boat south of Sabang Beach, Baler. The nearby reef shores to the right and left of the bay stay unharmed by dynamite fishing. Various multi-colored corals and undersea life are spread along the shore reef wall, which is concave, due to the hammering of the waves.
