Bugis Village in Singapore was an important center of tourist attraction during the period 1950 to 1980. It owed its popularity to the gathering of transwomen at night. Gradually its popularity dwindled when a large part of the Bugis village was dug to enable the construction of Bugis MRT Station. This stopped the transwomen from meeting regularly at night. They were the prime subjects of interest in the Bugis Village in Singapore and when they were no longer to be seen the number of people frequenting the Bugis Village reduced considerably.

Bugis Village in Singapore underwent a drastic alteration in the mid 1980's. Shopping malls, restaurants, night spots were set up with the objective of regaining its lost importance. It was successful in its endeavor and now it is visited by a large number of tourists in Singapore.

The Bugis Village in Singapore is presently a broad avenue standing in between the buildings of a shopping complex also named after it. It is more popularly referred to as Bugis Street.
