Originally built in 1937 by the brothers Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Pa Haw Par Villa, Singapore was known as 'Tiger Balm Gardens'. Re-opened for general public in the year 1990, Haw Par Villa contains more than 1,000 statues and 150 giant dioramas, which depict scenes from Chinese history, folklore, legends and illustrates various aspects of Confucianism in details. Haw Par Villa is located in 262 Pasir Panjang Road, which every visitors should visit to witness the splendorous and magnificent history of the country.

The Haw Par Villa is a Chinese park and it is interesting to note here that the park is based on myths that are associated with the Chinese community. It is neatly tucked away on the Pasir Panjang Road. It got set up in the year 1937 and the credit for the establishment of such a fascinating park goes to two persons, who are, Aw Boon Par and Aw Boon Haw. It was earlier known by the name, "Tiger Balm Gardens". In the year 1985 it got its new name, which is Haw Par Villa and it got converted to a park.

For visitors who wish to understand and appreciate Chinese culture, history, folklore and Confucian ideology, a visit to Haw Par Villa is a must. The park houses a colorful collection of over 1,000 statues and 150 giant tableaux, centered on Chinese mythology and new editions include the Jade House, which displays the Aw's family collection of jades and the Tiger Car, a replica of the car owned by Aw Boon Haw.

To give it the appearance of a park, the fair rides replaced the statues but this park failed to draw the attention of the tourists. Therefore in order to earn the recognition of the locals as well as the tourists some of the old features that were an integral part of the park were reset to adorn the park. This exciting park features one thousand statues and apart from these statues the other things to look out for are the giant size panoramas that are 150 in number. The panorams/dioramas portray scenes that are related to history, legends, folklore and philosophical theory associated with the Chinese community and a few of them are the The Goddess of Mercy, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the Laughing Buddha. The chief attraction of this park is the Ten Courts of Hell that showcases the ten steps of judgment that is followed by the reincarnation.
