Nong Khai is a small province in Thailand located on the banks of the Mae Kong River. It is only 24 Km from Vientiane opposite to Tha Dua on the other side. Actually Nong Khai is a part of the river basin in the north. It is a plateau with deciduous forest in the east while the west has mountains and forest adjoining forest area of Loei Province. Originally people went by boat from Tha Sadet, but the building of the Friendship Bridge across the Mekong has made Nong Khai a chief centre for transport and trade with Laos. Nong Khai Thailand Tours are very famous among the tourists due to its natural setting and the Nong Khai attractions. The Nong Khai attractions have always pulled in tourists from both home and all parts of the world. Nong Khai deserves more than just a day or two as it is packed with a load of attractions, small villages, hill-top temples, national parks and of course Nong Khai town which itself contains a bounty of attractions, some great guesthouses and a good range of places to eat. It was through Nong Khai that the first land crossing to Laos was opened for foreigners via the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge that was completed in 1994 and although today, a decade later, there are a range of options available to enter Laos; many still choose to go via Nong Khai. It is one of the most important Nong Khai attractions even today for the visitors.
